What do you believe?
You’re probably thinking, “About what?”.
I mean, what drives you? What are your priorities? Why do you get out of bed in the morning? What problems are you trying to solve?
It is likely many things. But what is the MOST important?
When I watched Oprah’s galvanizing speech from the Golden Globes, I was drawn to when she mentioned some of what drives her.
“So I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say “Me too” again.”
Typing that I notice her mention the girls. And I do what I do for the girls too. My girls, all girls. But my work is also so important for me. For you. For all women. Because taking our passions and our ideas and our actions into our own hands will still change the world.
What we do NOW will still affect us all NOW.
A couple of days ago I attended a leadership networking lunch and an inspiring woman engineer was speaking. She also had lots to say about what she called, ‘This I Believe,’ thoughts and actions. I want to call out an interesting answer she gave to a question.
The question was, “My daughter wants to change many things at her college. I tell her to wait until she has enough strength to change them before acting.” The speaker disagreed. She said, “Go back to your I Believe statements. Take action on those things. You don’t have to take action on everything, but your I believe statements will drive you. You don’t have to be strong enough. But you have to commit to doing something about it once you speak up. You can’t then sit on the sidelines after making your thoughts known. You have to be willing to jump right in and learn and do.”
So, what do I believe?
I believe in the power of women. Our ideas. Our solutions. Our instinct. Our ability to work together. Our VALUE. I believe we are changing the world. And I believe that together, we can change the world faster and better than anyone once dared dream.
YOUR CALL TO ACTION
Sit down for 10 minutes and write what you believe. Start with what drives you, what you feel passion for, where you hope to make the biggest difference. Then share them with me. I’d love to read them.
Make February a month of action. The world needs you.
